SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga outfielder Adison Keylon and UNCG right-handed pitcher Morgan Scott have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for games from May 2-8. The awards are selected by the league office and are the final ones of the season.
 
Keylon hit a staggering .857, slugged 2.143 and had an on-base percentage of .800 as the Mocs closed the regular season with a sweep of Western Carolina over the weekend. The sophomore from Harrison, Tennessee, was 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs in Saturday’s series opener, hitting a solo homer in the third inning and a go-ahead three-run shot in the sixth as the Mocs rallied from a 7-1 deficit for the 8-7 win. Later that afternoon, she was 1-for-2 with a single, a walk and a sacrifice fly as UTC won 10-6. Keylon capped her week by going 2-for-2 with a solo homer and a two-run single, also getting hit by a pitch and scoring three times in a 13-1, five-inning win. For the week, she totaled eight RBIs and six runs scored.
 
With the SoCon regular-season title on the line this weekend, UNCG turned to Scott for every pitch, as the junior threw 21 innings and went 2-1, giving up two earned runs in each contest against Samford in a series to determine the conference’s regular-season champion. In Saturday’s game-one win, Scott struck out five and allowed just five hits and a walk in a 7-3 win. She suffered the loss in the second game of the doubleheader despite allowing just two runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts, and in a winner-take-all game three on Sunday, Scott went eight innings, scattering 10 hits and three walks and striking out four in the 4-2 win to clinch the title.
 
Chattanooga (25-25, 9-9) evened its record with its sweep and clinched the No. 3 seed in this week’s SoCon Softball Championship. The Mocs will face No. 6 seed Western Carolina in the immediate rematch on Wednesday at 3 p.m. UNCG (37-16, 16-2), which earned the top seed for the fifth straight tournament, awaits either No. 4 seed Furman (20-31, 8-10) or No. 5 seed Mercer (16-39, 7-11) on Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
