SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford infielder/outfielder Ryan Galanie and Samford right-handed pitcher Michael Ross have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games from May 16-22. The selections, the first for Galanie and second for Ross, are made by the league office and are the final ones of the season.
 
Galanie hit .462 and posted a .500 on-base percentage in his three appearances for the Terriers this weekend, recording six hits and five total runs with one double, one triple and four home runs in Wofford’s regular-season series finale sweep over VMI. The junior started the weekend by going 3-for-6 with three RBIs, three runs scored, one triple and two homeruns in the Terriers’ 19-2, regular-season clinching win over the Keydets on Thursday, May 19, with his two home runs marking his third multi-homer game of the season. In Wofford’s 4-3 series-clinching victory over VMI on Friday, May 20, Galanie went 1-for-4 at the plate before going 3-for-3 the following day with two runs scored, seven RBIs, one double and two homeruns in the Terriers’ 17-3 series-finale win, with his two long balls in the contest marking his fourth multi-homer outing of the 2022 campaign, lifting his season total to 17 round-trippers. For the week, the Mason, Ohio, native swiped one base, totaled 11 RBIs and boasted a 1.615 slugging percentage.
 
Ross started and threw eight innings in his only appearance on the mound for Samford last week, allowing just one run and two walks in the Bulldogs’ 5-1 series-clinching victory over Mercer on Friday. The sophomore hurler recorded five strikeouts and allowed four hits in the win to conclude the contest with the victory and a 1.12 ERA.
 
Samford (26-27, 12-9 SoCon) went 2-1 in its regular season series finale against Mercer (39-16, 12-9) and clinched the No. 3 seed in this week’s SoCon Baseball Championship. The Bulldogs will face the winner of Wednesday’s second single-elimination contest between No. 6 seed Western Carolina (25-29-1, 9-11-1) and No. 7 seed VMI (16-39, 6-15) on Thursday, May 26, at 7 p.m. Wofford (40-14-1, 16-4-1), which earned the top seed after clinching its second straight regular-season title for the first time in program history, awaits either No. 4 seed UNCG (28-27, 12-9), No. 5 seed ETSU (30-20, 11-10) or No. 8 seed The Citadel (26-28, 5-16) on Friday at 9 a.m. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
