Chattanooga's Parrott named Student-Athlete of the Week

Named Most Outstanding Player at SoCon Softball Championship; Maintains a 3.614 GPA

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga softball player Brooke Parrott has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from May 11-17. The selection, Parrott’s second of the academic year, is made by the conference office.
 
Parrott was named the SoCon Softball Championship’s Most Outstanding Player last weekend after going 4-0 in the circle with 14 strikeouts, four earned runs and a 1.12 ERA. The junior tossed two complete games, including a 10-inning outing in the Mocs’ 3-2 win over Western Carolina in the first round on Wednesday, allowing one earned run on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts, and a complete-game shutout in Chattanooga’s 4-0 victory over Samford on Thursday, allowing three hits with one walk and five strikeouts to help the Mocs advance to the semifinal contest against UNCG. After earning a victory in Chattanooga’s 10-2 win over the Spartans on Friday to reach the championship game, she earned the victory in the title contest, collecting her 15th of 2022 campaign. Parrott tossed five innings, starting and coming back in in relief, with the right-hander tossing two scoreless frames in relief and recording the final six outs en route to the Mocs’ 15th SoCon tournament crown.
 
The Harrison, Tennessee, native maintains a 3.614 grade point average and is majoring in exercise science.
 
Chattanooga (29-25, 9-9 SoCon) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and will play as the No. 4 seed in the Tuscaloosa Regional. The Mocs will face No. 6 national seed and regional host Alabama on Friday, May 20, at 4 p.m. ET.
