Furman’s Julia Adams claims third straight SoCon weekly honor

Senior went a combined 4-0 on the week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Julia Adams has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 29 to April 4, the conference announced on Tuesday.
 
Adams, ranked No. 53 in singles and No. 44 with Ellie Schoppe in doubles, went 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles as 35th-ranked Furman topped a pair of SoCon opponents in Chattanooga and Mercer.
 
The senior from Knoxville, Tennessee, rolled to a pair of straight-sets singles wins at No. 1, downing UTC’s Nicole Abel 6-2, 6-0 on Saturday and the Bears’ Naya Tillitt 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday.
 
In doubles play, Adams and Schoppe topped the Mocs’ Jessie Young and Caroline Gibbens at No. 1, 6-2. The Paladin duo dropped Mercer’s top pair, Tillitt and Mary Courville, 7-5.
 
The weekly award is the fourth of the season for Adams and the eighth of her career.
 
Furman (14-6, 3-0 SoCon) visits Western Carolina (11-7, 1-3) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. before returning home for its final home match, on Saturday against Samford (10-7, 3-1) at 1 p.m.
 
Also nominated: Daniela Rivera (ETSU), Naya Tillitt (Mercer), Sofia Zaprianov (Samford) and Julia Pezzuco (Western Carolina) and Lily Woods (Wofford).
