SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Michael McMahan and The Citadel’s Sam Blumer have been named the Southern Conference men’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, while Samford’s McKenzie Hogue and Brittany Bishop claimed the honors on the women’s side, the conference office announced Wednesday.
 
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from April 13-19.
 
McMahan won his second straight weekly award. Running at Auburn’s War Eagle Invitational, the graduate student from Franklin, Tennessee, competed in the 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles, finishing fifth and fourth, respectively. His time of 14.45 seconds in the 110mH would lead the SoCon if he didn’t already have the top mark at 14.29, while his time of 51.95 in the 400mH lowered his league lead in that event. His 400mH time ranks 29^th on the NCAA East Outdoor Qualifying List and 66^th on the overall NCAA list.
 
The Citadel’s Blumer competed at South Carolina’s Gamecock Invitational on Saturday, finishing third in the pole vault with a jump of 5.05 meters. That mark ranks the graduate student from Greenville, South Carolina, second in the SoCon this season and eighth in the South Region and ties him for 38^th on the NCAA East Outdoor Qualifying List.
 
Also competing at the War Eagle Invitational this weekend, Samford’s Hogue, a junior from Alabaster, Alabama, ran a personal-best time of 4:23.37 to win the 1,500-meter run. That time is good for second in the SoCon this season and ranks 18^th on the NCAA South Region Outdoor Performance List and 63^rd on the NCAA East Outdoor Qualifying List.
 
Samford’s Bishop set a school record in the pole vault at the War Eagle Invitational, clearing 4.17 meters, upping her seasonal best and conference-leading mark. The junior from Clinton, Tennessee, now ranks third in the South Region, 16^th on the NCAA East Outdoor Qualifying List and 28^th on the overall NCAA performance list.
