SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacksonville’s Jackson Intrieri and Dixon Smith have been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all games April 12-18 after leading the Dolphins to a 2-0 weekend and at least a share of the SoCon title. The awards are selected by the league office.
The Dolphins downed VMI 25-6 on Saturday and Hampton 26-3 on Sunday to move to 4-0 in the league, securing at least a share of the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the SoCon Men’s Lacrosse Championship.
Intrieri totaled 14 points in the two games over the weekend, netting nine goals and collecting five assists. The freshman from Ambler, Pennsylvania, scored a career-best seven goals in the win over the Keydets on Saturday, the second-most in a game in school history, and added two helpers for a nine-point day. He finished the afternoon tied with teammate Jack Dolan for the program’s single-season assist record with 25. Intieri made the mark his own the following day, dishing off three assists and adding two more goals in the win at Hampton.
Smith paced the Dolphins’ defense as JU held VMI and Hampton to a combined nine goals. Against the Keydets on Saturday, the graduate student from Dallas, Texas, matched his season high with five ground balls, marking the sixth time in his career he’s logged at least five. Smith also added three caused turnovers on the day. On Sunday against the Pirates, Smith scored the second goal of his career and first since 2020, which also came against Hampton. He also added another ground ball as Jacksonville held an opponent under 10 goals for the seventh time in 14 outings this season.
Jacksonville (12-2, 4-0 SoCon), which is ranked No. 7 in the USILA / Dynamic Men’s Coaches Division I Poll and Inside Lacrosse poll and No. 6 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll, wraps up its regular season when it hosts Mercer (4-9, 1-2) on Saturday at noon. With a win, the Dolphins would claim the SoCon regular-season title outright.
Other offensive nominees: Ryan Lanchbury (Richmond).
Other defensive nominees: Ray Baran (Richmond).
