SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford junior Sophie Membrino has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from April 6-12, the conference office announced Wednesday. The selection is the final one of the 2021-22 season.
 
Membrino earned her second win of the spring campaign Saturday, finishing off a one-stroke victory in the 63-woman field at Murray State’s Jan Weaver Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Course in Murray, Kentucky. The junior from Ponte Vedra, Florida, shot a 7-over-par 151 over two rounds at the tournament, which saw the second round canceled due to inclement weather.
 
Membrino opened with a 1-over 73 Friday as the teams battled through hazardous conditions that included snow, sleet and high winds and caused the cancelation of the day’s scheduled second round. Membrino then posted a 6-over 78 in the second round to remain atop the field.
 
With Membrino pacing three Bulldogs in the top 10, Samford also claimed the team title at the tournament, posting the best team round both days en route to a 14-stroke win over runner-up Belmont in the 10-team field. Samford’s title was its second of the spring, as the Bulldogs also claimed the Alabama State University Spring Classic, with Membrino earning medalist honors in that tournament, as well.
 
The SoCon regular season is complete. The Bulldogs return to action alongside the eight other league programs at the Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship at Barefoot Landing Resort’s Dye Golf Course in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on April 17-19.
