SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Nico Grewe has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played April 5-11, the conference announced on Tuesday.
 
Grewe went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles, picking up a ranked win with partner Roger Rogowski.
 
The Spartans opened their week with a 5-2 win over Mercer on Thursday. After Grewe and Rogowski dropped a 6-4 doubles decision to David Georgadze and Lucas Wayenburg, Grewe rebounded to grab a 6-3, 6-4 win over Wayenburg in singles action.
 
The graduate student from Raleigh, North Carolina, earned a pair of wins against Furman in a 5-2 loss on Sunday, teaming with Rogowski for a 6-3 win over No. 52 Ivan Mitric and Jamie Connel in doubles play and then outlasting Mitric at the top of the singles lineup, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
 
UNCG (6-13, 3-3 SoCon) steps out of conference play to face regional rival Elon on Thursday at 6 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season at Chattanooga (5-15, 3-3) on Saturday at 12 p.m.
 
Also nominated: Frazier Rengifo (ETSU), Emil Westling (Furman) and Ashe Ray (Wofford).
