SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Anna Morgan has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 2-8. The selection is made by the conference office.
Morgan, a junior from Spartanburg, South Carolina, carded a final-round 73 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate to finish in a tie for 13th at the par-71, 6,281-yard Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on March 2. She also finished in a tie for individual medalist honors with a 6-under-par 210 on Tuesday at the UNF Collegiate, where 46th-ranked Furman (+7) finished second at the par-72, 5,929-yard Jacksonville Golf and Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.
Morgan averaged 70 strokes through three rounds at the UNF Collegiate, firing a low-round 67 on the final day. On Monday, she paced the Paladins with a 70 and a team-high four birdies in round one and carded a second-round 73 with birdies on No. 14 and No. 16 in the afternoon round to finish the day tied for fifth.
During Tuesday’s final round, she teed off on No. 1 and birdied No. 5 then eagled the par-5 No. 8 and added another birdie on No. 9 to turn at 4-under.?She scored three additional birdies on the back nine to finish the day at 5-under and tie for the title with Jacksonville State's Berta Sanchez Sabe (-6).?
This marks Morgan’s fourth weekly honor of the season and fifth of her career.
Furman returns to action on March 12 at the Valspar Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Georgia, at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
