SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford women’s basketball player Alexis Tomlin has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from March 2-8. The selection, Tomlin’s third of the season, is made by the conference office.
Tomlin received all-tournament first-team honors after posting two strong performances against ETSU and Furman in the Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championship on Thursday, March 3, and Friday, March 4, in Asheville, North Carolina. In the quarterfinal round against the Buccaneers, Tomlin scored a career-high 20 points and had 11 rebounds to record her sixth double-double of the season, while also swiping four steals and swatting four blocks, tying her career-best marks in both categories. In the Terriers’ semifinal loss to the Paladins, the senior forward netted 14 points to lead the Wofford offense
, and added five rebounds, three steals
, and one block. The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, native was tied for fifth among all players in the tournament with 17.0 PPG, while also ranking sixth in rebounds per game with 8.0. With a 73.7 percent shooting clip (14-of-19), Tomlin was the most accurate shooter in the competition, while defensively, she paced the competitors in blocks (five) and ranked second in steals (seven). She was one of just four players to post a double-double in Asheville.
Tomlin maintains a 4.00 grade point average and is pursuing degrees in biology and mathematics.
As the SoCon’s regular-season runner-up, Wofford (17-13, 11-3 SoCon) earned the SoCon's automatic qualifier to the Postseason WNIT following regular-season champion Mercer's victory in the tournament title game Sunday. Postseason WNIT officials will release the 64-team field after the NCAA tournament bracket is released on Sunday, March 13.
