SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Rouxanne Janse van Rensburg has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 1-8, the conference announced on Tuesday.
van Rensburg was dominant in Samford’s 7-0 win over Troy on Thursday, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Anastasiia Khokhlova at No. 1 singles and teaming with Alexis Lopez for a 6-0 win over Khokhlova and Andrea Widing at No. 1 doubles.
In a 6-1 win over Jacksonville State on Saturday, the senior from Franschhoek, South Africa, topped the Gamecocks’ Romane Mosse at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-6, and again paired with Lopez for a 7-5 win over Mosse and Kennedi Jones at No. 1 doubles.
Samford (6-5) will take on a pair of former SoCon foes this week, as it will face App State in Charleston, South Carolina, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. CT before visiting College of Charleston on Thursday at 9 a.m. The Bulldogs return home to host UNCG (1-8, 0-1) for their SoCon opener on Friday at noon.
