SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford swept the Southern Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week awards for the second straight week, with Alex Webb and Ashton Domingue earning the women’s and men’s awards, respectively, while Furman’s Megan Marvin and ETSU’s Adam Bradtmueller were named the Outdoor Women’s and Men’s Track Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from March 23-29.
Competing at Mississippi State’s Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays in Starkville, Mississippi, on Saturday, Samford’s Webb finished second overall and was the top collegiate finisher in the javelin. The sophomore from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, turned in a program-record throw of 48.66 meters, which leads the SoCon this season and ranks sixth in the South Region, 14th on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List and 34th on the overall DI Outdoor Qualifying List.
Domingue was also in action for Samford at the Bulldog Relays. The senior from Birmingham, Alabama, finished eighth overall and fourth among collegiate athletes in the javelin with a throw of 66.30 meters, which ranks second in the SoCon this season. His mark also ranks fifth in the South Region, 21st on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List and 29th on the overall DI Outdoor Qualifying List.
Competing at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Friday, Furman’s Marvin won her heat and finished seventh overall and fifth among collegiate athletes in the 1,500-meter run in her collegiate debut in the event. The sophomore from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, turned in a time of 4:17.09, the second-best time in program history, which leads the SoCon this season by more than nine seconds. Her time also ranks fourth on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List and fifth on the overall DI Outdoor Qualifying List.
Marvin was also named the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Also in action at the Raleigh Relays, ETSU’s Bradtmueller won his section and finished 13th overall (ninth among collegiate athletes) among 223 finishers in the 5,000-meter run Thursday. The graduate student from Sarasota, Florida, clocked a time of 13:50.51 to best his personal record by 14 seconds and leads the SoCon in the event this season by five seconds. Bradtmueller’s time ranks fifth on the NCAA Division I East Outdoor Qualifying List and eighth on the overall DI Outdoor Qualifying List.
