SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman senior Anna Morgan has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 23-29, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The 62nd-ranked Morgan finished fifth at 3-over-par 219 in the loaded Clemson Invitational, finishing ahead of 15 of the other 17 top-100 players in the 101-woman field, including four ranked in the top 30. The Spartanburg, South Carolina, native opened with a 1-under 71 in Friday’s opening round to tie for seventh and moved up into a tie for third Saturday despite a 1-over 73 as just three players scored under par on a day that featured high winds. Morgan closed out her tournament with a 3-over 75 Sunday to finish seven strokes back of medalist and fifth-ranked Ingrid Lindblad of LSU, the only player in the field to finish under par for the weekend.

Morgan helped 46th-ranked Furman to an eighth-place finish in the 17-team field, which included 11 top-50 squads. The Paladins finished ahead of five squads ranked ahead of them nationally, including No. 34 Clemson (10th), No. 44 Kent State (T11th), No. 37 Vanderbilt (13th), No. 42 Purdue (T14th) and No. 23 Virginia Tech (16th).

Morgan’s weekly honor is her fifth of the season and the sixth of her career, tying her for second in SoCon history with Chattanooga’s Emma de Groot, who was honored six times from 2008-11. Furman’s Natalie Srinivasan (2018-20) holds the SoCon record with seven selections.

Morgan returns to action at the Augusta National Women’s Amateur starting Wednesday. As a team, the Paladins are idle until the SoCon Women’s Golf Championship at Barefoot Landing Resort’s Dye Golf Course in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on April 17-19.

Also nominated: Sophie Bert (ETSU), Tracy Rodriguez (Mercer) and Tara Bettle (UNCG).
