SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Julia Adams has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 22-28, the conference announced on Tuesday.
 
Adams went 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles as 24^th-ranked Furman opened league play with a 7-0 win at Wofford on Thursday before falling 4-3 at Clemson on Saturday.
 
The senior from Knoxville, Tennessee, rolled to a pair of straight-sets singles wins at No. 1, topping Wofford’s Lilie Steryous 6-1, 6-1 and Clemson’s Cristina Mayorova, ranked No. 121, 6-4, 6-3.
 
In doubles action, Adams teamed with Ellie Schoppe at No. 1 in both contests, and the 44^th-ranked duo downed Wofford’s Steryous and Liz Massie, 6-0, and Clemson’s Mayorova and Daniella Medvedeva, 6-4.
 
The weekly award is the third of the season for Adams and the seventh of her career.
 
Furman (12-6, 1-0 SoCon) hosts Chattanooga (10-6, 2-1) at 10 a.m. Saturday before visiting Mercer (6-11, 0-3) on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
 
Also nominated: Fernanda Carvajal (ETSU), Erika Barquero (UNCG), Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg (Samford) and Jordyn King (Western Carolina).
