SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG graduate student Tara Bettle has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 16-22, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Bettle finished third at the Pinetree Women’s Collegiate, which was contested Monday and Tuesday at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw, Georgia. The Berlin, Germany, native shot a 1-over-par 217 for the 54-hole tournament, opening with a 2-over 74 in Monday’s first round before finishing the day even and tied for fifth with a 2-under 70 in the day’s second round.

In Tuesday’s final round, she was one of just eight players to shoot 73 or better, with her 1-over 73 moving her up to finish in a tie for third.

Bettle helped the Spartans to a fifth-place finish in the 12-team, 68-player field.

UNCG is back in action March 28-30 at the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate at Caledonia Golf Club in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

Also nominated: Elizabeth Lohbauer (Western Carolina) and Becca Earl (Wofford).
