Chattanooga's Wood named Student-Athlete of the Week

Went 1-0 with a save and a 0.66 ERA

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga softball player Hannah Wood has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from March 16-22. The selection, Wood’s first of the 2022 campaign, is made by the conference office.
 
Wood went 1-0 with a save and a 0.66 ERA in Chattanooga’s games against Bucknell and Southeastern Louisiana last week. She allowed just one run, no walks and six hits and recorded four strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings of work. The junior pitcher threw a scoreless inning in the Mocs’ 9-0 win over Bucknell on Friday, March 18, before tossing a complete-game shutout in Chattanooga’s 5-0 victory over the Bison the following day. Wood allowed only four hits and recorded three strikeouts in the win, with her complete-game marking the second seven-inning complete-game shutout of her career. The Chattanooga, Tennessee, native earned the save in Sunday’s 4-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana, surrendering her only run of the week despite allowing just two hits in 2 2/3 innings.
 
Wood was also named the SoCon Softball Pitcher of the Week on Monday, collecting her first weekly award this season.
 
Wood maintains a 3.82 grade point average and is pursuing a degree in health and physical education.
 
Chattanooga (16-13, 0-0 SoCon) returns to action on Wednesday, March 23, traveling to Nashville, Tennessee, for a 5 p.m. ET game at Lipscomb (10-17) before returning to Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee. for a weekend series against Furman (9-15, 0-0 SoCon) in the first weekend of Southern Conference action. The series begins on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.
