SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacksonville’s Jack Dolan and Richmond’s Ray Baran have been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all games March 15-21. The awards are selected by the league office.

Dolan became Jacksonville’s career points leader in the Dolphins’ 22-8 win at UMass Lowell on Saturday, scoring six points on three goals and three assists. The graduate midfielder from Columbus, Ohio, dished out all three assists in the first quarter as JU jumped out to a 9-1 lead after 15 minutes of game action. His second assist of the day tied him with former teammate Eric Applegate for the program record with 144 points, while his third gave him sole possession of the record. Dolan would go on to score a goal in the second quarter and two in the third to finish the contest with 148 career points, which ranks fourth in SoCon history. Dolan scored on his only three shots of the day for a perfect 1.000 shooting percentage.

Baran was part of a defensive unit that held UMBC to its second-lowest scoring output of the season in the Spiders’ 14-9 win Sunday. The senior defenseman from Berwyn, Pennsylvania, scooped up six ground balls and caused three turnovers, both game and season highs. Baran fell one short of his career bests in both categories, as he had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers in games in 2020.

Jacksonville (7-2), which is nationally ranked for the sixth straight week and returned to the top 10 at No. 9 in the Nike / USA Lacrosse poll, hosts St. John’s on Saturday at noon. Richmond (4-3) visits Hampton (0-5) in the SoCon opener for both squads on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Other offensive nominees: Hunter Vines (High Point), Matt Wingardner (Mercer) and Ryan Lanchbury (Richmond).

Other defensive nominees: Jack Heed (Jacksonville) and Garrett LeClaire (Mercer).
