SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Julia Adams has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 15-21, the conference announced on Tuesday.
 
Adams went 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles as 23^rd-ranked Furman topped James Madison (4-1) and No. 43 Charlotte (4-2).
 
The senior from Knoxville, Tennessee, earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Natalia Nikolopoulou at No. 1 singles in the win over JMU on Saturday. She also teamed with Ellie Schoppe for a 6-1 win over Daria Afanasyeva and Michelle Los Arcos at No. 1 doubles.
 
Against the 49ers on Sunday, Adams and Schoppe, ranked No. 24, dropped a 6-4 doubles match to No. 31 Margaux Maquet and Lucia Quiterio. The 51^st-ranked Adams bounced back by beating No. 120 Maquet in singles, 6-3, 6-3.
 
Furman (11-5) opens league play Thursday when it hosts rival Wofford (6-7, 0-2 SoCon) at 3:30 p.m. before visiting No. 62 Clemson on Saturday at noon.
 
Also nominated: Yunuen Elizarraras (ETSU), Naya Tillitt (Mercer), Erika Barquero (UNCG), Nicole Abel (Chattanooga) and Liz Massie (Wofford).
