SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Laylo Bakhodirova has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 8-14, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Bakhodirova went a combined 4-0 on the week as the Bucs posted a pair of shutouts. In ETSU’s 4-0 win over Lipscomb on March 8, the junior from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, teamed with Alejandra Morales to down Kate Popova and Anja Trbeznik at No. 1 doubles, 6-2. She then clinched the match at No. 1 singles, topping Sasha Dobranos, 6-1, 6-3.
After moving up to No. 83 in singles from No. 118, Bakhodirova cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lily Woods at No. 1 singles as ETSU downed Wofford 7-0 to move to 2-0 in league play. She and Morales clinched the doubles point at No. 1, earning a 6-2 win over Woods and Georgia Fischer.
ETSU (9-6, 2-0 SoCon) is in action Tuesday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, against Harvard and Northern Iowa before visiting FIU in Miami, Florida, on Thursday.
