SPARTANBURG, S.C. – High Point’s Brayden Mayea and Jacksonville’s Nathan Kapp have been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all games March 8-14. The awards are selected by the league office.
Mayea matched his career high with six points in the Panthers’ 13-11 win at Robert Morris on Friday. The sophomore attackman from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, matched his season high with five goals and assisted on another as High Point won its second straight to move above .500 for the first time this year. Mayea scored twice in the second quarter and three times in the third before assisting on an insurance goal with 47 seconds left in the contest.
Kapp matched his season high with nine ground balls and went 15-for-20 on faceoffs as Jacksonville downed former SoCon foe Bellarmine 16-2 on Friday. The two goals allowed by the Dolphins tied for the fewest in program history. Kapp, a redshirt sophomore from Middleton, Wisconsin, matched his season high in faceoff wins and posted his highest winning percentage (.750) of the season.
High Point (4-3) hosts No. 9 North Carolina on Sunday at noon, while 16
th-ranked Jacksonville (6-2) visits UMass Lowell on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Other offensive nominees: Jackson Intrieri (Jacksonville) and Sean Goldsmith (Mercer).
Other defensive nominees: Wesley Chairs (Mercer).
