Mercer to face Connecticut in NCAA first round

Bears are No. 15 seed in Bridgeport Region

INDIANAPOLIS – The Mercer women’s basketball team learned its fate in the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship during Sunday night’s NCAA Selection Show. The 15th-seeded Bears will face second-seeded Connecticut in the Bridgeport Region in the first round on Saturday, March 19, in Storrs, Connecticut.

The Bears (23-6) are coming off their second consecutive Ingles SoCon Women’s Basketball Championship title after a dominant run in Asheville, North Carolina, that featured two wins by 30 or more points en route to their fourth automatic bid in five seasons. This will be Mercer’s fourth trip to the Big Dance, having faced South Carolina last season, Iowa in 2019 and Georgia in 2018.

Mercer will head to Storrs having won 12 of 13, beating every SoCon opponent at least twice on their way to capturing both the regular-season and tournament championships.
