SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Dimitri Badra has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 22-28, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Badra was a combined 3-1 last week, winning both of his doubles matches and going 1-1 in singles play. In Saturday’s 4-2 win at UAB, Badra teamed with Hugo Lobo for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, helping the Bucs clinch the doubles point for the seventh straight match. Badra dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles.
The Bucs opened SoCon play at Samford on Sunday, with Badra going 2-0 in the 5-2 team win. The Maracay, Venezuela, native paired with Juan Jose Vargas at No. 2 doubles for a 6-3 win. Badra picked up a three-set win at No. 1 singles, topping Jim Hendrikx 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.
ETSU (6-4, 1-0 SoCon) hosts Wofford (4-7, 0-0) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. before visiting UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
