SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Cameron Ponder and Samford’s Jed Sisco have been named the Southern Conference men’s indoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, while ETSU’s Genevieve Schwarz and The Citadel’s Carisma Holland have earned the women’s track and field awards, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.
 
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from Feb. 2-8.
 
Furman’s Ponder earned his second straight weekly honor by turning in a converted time of 7:47.14 in the elite section of the 3,000-meter run at the Camel City Invitational at JDL Fast Track in his hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Saturday to finish seventh in the event and shave more than seven seconds off his previous career-best time. His mark is the second-best time in program history, leads the SoCon this season by more than 17 seconds and is good for eighth on the NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List.
 
Sisco is Samford’s third different men’s field winner in four weeks to start the season. The sophomore from Morrow, Ohio, competed at the USA Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama, on Sunday, tying for second in the pole vault with a height of 5.07 meters, matching his lifetime-best effort. Sisco’s mark leads the SoCon by nearly eight inches and ranks seventh on the South Region Performance List.
 
ETSU’s Schwarz competed at the Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational in Johnson City, Tennessee, earning Track Athlete of the Meet honors after wining the 800-meter run and the mile on Saturday. The junior from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, turned in an indoor personal-best in the 800m with a time of 2:14.59, which ranks third in the SoCon this season. Her winning time of 4:57.00 in the mile is good for sixth in the league. Both efforts are ranked within the region, with her 800m time good for 35th on the South Region Performance List and her mile time good for 46th. Schwarz is the defending SoCon champion in the mile.
 
The Citadel’s Holland claimed her second straight weekly honor after breaking the program record in the shot put with a SoCon-leading throw of 14.23 meters (46 feet, 8.25 inches) to claim third at the Liberty Open in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Saturday. The graduate student from Seneca, South Carolina, who last week became The Citadel’s first winner of an indoor women’s field athlete of the week award since 2007, is now the first Bulldog track and field student-athlete to claim consecutive indoor honors from the SoCon, men or women. Holland’s throw leads the SoCon by more than a foot this season and ranks 20th on the Southeast Region Performance List.
