SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Amoria Neal-Tysor has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Feb. 1-7 after averaging 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in a pair of conference victories. The award, Neal-Tysor’s first of the season, is selected by the league office.
The native of Sanford, North Carolina, scored 25 points, matching her season high, and recorded eight rebounds, adding a pair of assists and one steal in the Bears’ 59-53 win over Chattanooga on Thursday, Feb. 3. In Mercer’s 82-48 victory over ETSU on Saturday, Feb. 5, the senior guard netted a season-high 29 points and registered four rebounds, adding two assists and two steals in the win. She scored 18 points and hit a trio of 3-pointers in the opening stanza before finishing 11-of-17 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range.
For the week, Neal-Tysor shot 58.3 percent from the floor (21-of-36) and 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from behind the arc in 62 total minutes of action. In conference play, she’s averaging 18.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game.
After the pair of road games, the Bears (15-6, 8-1 SoCon) return home to Macon, Georgia, to host Western Carolina (6-17, 0-9) on Thursday, Feb. 10, before welcoming UNCG (6-15, 2-6) on Saturday, Feb. 12.
