SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Tierra Hodges has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Feb. 22-27 after averaging 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in a pair of conference victories. The award, Hodges fourth of the season, is selected by the league office and is the final one of the 2021-22 campaign.

Hodges opened the week scoring eight points in Furman’s 64-43 win over Chattanooga on Thursday, Feb. 24, while also adding 11 rebounds to help the Paladins’ defense limit Chattanooga to its lowest scoring tally against Furman in regular-season series history. Two days later, the senior forward netted a career-high 29 points and recorded 14 rebounds in the Paladins’ 62-51 regular-season ending road win over ETSU, with the 29 points accounting for 46.7 percent of Furman’s 62 points. In the win over the Bucs, the Covington, Georgia, native connected on 9-of-18 field goals and converted a career high 11 free throws, while also notching her SoCon leading 18th double-double of the season and 52nd unique statistical double of her career, tying her head coach Jackie Carson for the most in Furman history. The two wins helped Furman improve to 1-4 in league play, giving the program its highest win total in league play since the 2013-14 season.

For the week, Hodges shot 31.4 percent from the floor (11-of-35) and 93.3 percent (14-of-15) from the free throw line in 77 minutes of action. In conference play, she ranks first in scoring and rebounding, averaging 19.9 points per game and 12.1 rebounds per game, and ranks fifth in free-throw percentage, shooting 81.6 percent from the free-throw line.

The Paladins (17-11, 10-4 SoCon) are the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Ingles SoCon Basketball Championship at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina, and will face No. 6 seed Chattanooga (7-22, 5-9 SoCon) on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. to conclude round one of the women’s tournament.
