CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chattanooga men's basketball sophomore guard Malachi Smith has been named to the 2021-22 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Thursday.
 
Smith is on the District 3 team, which includes NCAA Division I schools from Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia. Smith carries a 3.31 GPA as a Sport, Outdoor Recreation & Tourism Management major.
 
The Belleville, Illinois, native leads the SoCon in scoring at 20.3 points per game and has the Mocs in first place, one UTC win or Furman loss from clinching at least a share of the SoCon regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Ingles SoCon Men’s Basketball Championship.
 
The 2021-22 Academic All-District® Men’s Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
