SPARTANBURG, S.C. – App State’s Jonathan Millner has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Feb. 9-15. The selection, Millner’s second of the season, is made by the league office.
In the Mountaineers’ solo match of the week, Millner went 1-0 at 149 pounds, clinching a 3-2 decision over Campbell’s No. 6 Josh Heil to help App State post a 19-13 victory in its first-place dual against the Camels on Saturday, Feb. 12. The redshirt senior secured a No. 4 ranking from Intermat entering the matchup with Heil, who was 9-0 with a No. 4 NCAA Coaches Ranking and No. 6 spot from Intermat. Millner rode out the third period against Heil, who was looking for a third-period escape to break a 2-all tie, to earn one point and produce a one-point victory for the App State All-American wrestler. With the win, the Greensboro, North Carolina, native improves to 29-1 in duals, including 20-0 in SoCon duals, for his career.
App State (7-2, 5-0 SoCon) travels to Davidson, North Carolina, on Friday, Feb. 18, for a conference match against the Davidson Wildcats at 7 p.m. ET before traveling to Clinton, South Carolina, on Sunday, Feb. 20, for a conference match against the Presbyterian Blue Hose at 2 p.m. ET.
