SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Carson Williams and Megan Marvin have been named the Southern Conference men’s and women’s indoor track athletes of the week, respectively, while Samford’s Justin Stuckey and Brittany Bishop earned the men’s and women’s field awards, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from Feb. 9-15.
Williams picked up Furman’s third straight men’s track honor with his effort at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington, on Friday. The sophomore from Raleigh, North Carolina, took fourth place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 13:51.92, knocking nearly five seconds off the school record. His time currently leads the SoCon by nearly 12 seconds and ranks fourth in the Southeast Region.
Furman’s Marvin picked up her third award of the season after a dominant performance at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia. On Friday, the sophomore from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a program-record time of 2:07.03. The following day, Marvin finished third in the mile in a personal-best time of 4:39.40, which leads the SoCon this season by more than six seconds and ranks 50
th on the NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List.
Stuckey is Samford’s fourth different men’s field winner in five weeks. The senior from Helena, Alabama, competed at the Indoor Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday, winning the high jump with a personal-best mark of 2.20 meters, which is an indoor program record. Stuckey’s mark also leads the SoCon and is good for a tie for seventh on the NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List.
Samford’s Bishop claimed her second award of the season after clearing a personal-best height of 3.93 meters to place eighth in the pole vault at the Indoor Music City Challenge on Saturday. The junior from Clinton, Tennessee, increased her SoCon lead to 11 inches in the event, with her mark from the weekend good for second-best in program history.
