SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jacksonville’s Max Waldbaum and Richmond’s Devin Craven have been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all games Feb. 8-14. The awards are selected by the league office.
 
Waldbaum scored a game-high six points in the Dolphins’ 14-12 win at second-ranked Duke on Sunday, scoring a game-best four goals and adding two assists as Jacksonville knocked off a top-three team for the first time in program history. The graduate transfer from Tufts scored all four of his goals in the first half to stake JU to a 7-5 halftime lead and assisted on two more scores in the second half in the monumental win. Waldbaum, who also scored four times in a season-opening 11-8 setback at No. 16 Johns Hopkins, has scored eight goals and notched three assists in his first two games on Jacksonville’s roster.
 
Making his first career start in goal for Richmond, Craven posted a career-high 16 saves in the Spiders’ season-opening 13-9 setback at No. 4 North Carolina on Friday. The redshirt sophomore from McLean, Virginia, faced 58 shots and posted a .552 save percentage on the day, with his 16 stops marking the most in a first start in program history and the sixth-most in a game overall. Craven also picked up four ground balls on the day.
 
Jacksonville (1-1), which has jumped into the national rankings this week at No. 15 in the Inside Lacrosse poll and No. 16 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine poll, takes on SoCon foe Mercer (1-2) in a nonconference, neutral-site match in Savannah, Georgia, on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before opening the home portion of its schedule against Marquette (1-1) on Saturday at noon. Richmond (0-1), which is receiving votes in the national polls, hosts Marist (1-1) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
