SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Yazz Wazeerud-Din has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 29 to Dec. 5 after averaging 20 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last week. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Wazeerud-Din started and played every minute for Chattanooga as the Mocs defeated Georgia State, 74-60, on Wednesday, Nov. 30, as she scored 19 points and tied her career high in assists with six. Wazeerud-Din also had a season-high six rebounds and two steals against the Panthers.
 
The native of Marietta, Georgia, played another 40 minutes on the road at Alabama on Saturday, Dec. 3. Chattanooga fell to the Crimson Tide 61-52 in a game that ended a four-game win streak for the Mocs. Against Alabama, Wazeerud-Din scored 21 points, grabbed three rebounds and had one steal and a block. Wazeerud-Din has scored 20-plus points in five games this season, which is the most of any player in the SoCon.
 
Chattanooga (6-4) travels to Tennessee on Tuesday, Dec. 6, for its lone game this week.
