SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga women’s basketball player Abbey Cornelius has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Dec. 21-27. The selection is made by the conference office.
 
Cornelius logged the game’s only double-double in the Mocs’ 60-56 setback at Marshall on Dec. 21. The graduate student from Knoxville, Tennessee, scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, going 6-for-11 (.545) from the floor and adding a pair of assists.
 
With her efforts, Cornelius moved to 26^th on Chattanooga’s all-time scoring list with 1,038 points. The forward is one of just three players in program history with 1,000 points, 700 rebounds and 100 blocked shots in her career.
 
For the season, Cornelius is 12^th in the SoCon in scoring at 11.5 points per game, sixth in rebounding at 7.3 per contest and second in blocked shots at 1.1 per game.
 
Cornelius graduated from Chattanooga last December with a degree in exercise science, carrying a 3.97 GPA, and has maintained a 4.0 in her graduate studies as she pursues an MBA.
 
Chattanooga (8-6) hosts Jacksonville State on Thursday at 7 p.m. before opening league play at ETSU on Jan. 5.
