SPARTANBURG, S.C. – App State’s Will Miller has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Dec. 14-20. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Miller went 3-0 at 174 pounds as he grabbed wins in dual meets with No. 21 North Carolina, Bellarmine and Queens. Against the Tar Heels on Thursday, Dec. 15, the native of Helena, Alabama, defeated eighth-ranked Clay Lautt, 7-5, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Miller’s upset of Lautt gave the Mountaineers their final victory of the dual meet.
 
Five days later, the sophomore won his conference opener at home against Bellarmine wrestler Devan Hendricks by a score of 3-1. Miller won his second match of the day against Sebastian Shered of Queens with a 14-4 major decision victory. Miller has been victorious in nine of his last 11 matches.
 
The Mountaineers defeated North Carolina, 19-16, before winning their other two duals via shutout with a score of 39-0 against Bellarmine and 50-0 versus Queens.
 
App State (3-1, 1-0 SoCon) travels to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to compete in the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 1-2.
