SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ten Southern Conference football student-athletes earned spots on the 2022 Stats Perform FCS All-America Team, while two more were recognized on the Stats Performan Freshman All-America Team,
as announced by the organization Tuesday.
Chattanooga led the way for the SoCon with four All-America selections, followed by ETSU with two. Furman, Mercer, Samford and VMI had one each. Overall, Montana had the most selections with six, while Sacramento State had five and Chattanooga, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, UIW and Weber State four each.
Six SoCon players earned first-team honors. Furman tight end Ryan Miller and Chattanooga offensive lineman McClendon Curtis earned the nods on offense, while defensive lineman Jay Person of Chattanooga and defensive back Alijah Huzzie of ETSU were defensive picks. VMI long snapper Robert Soderholm and Mercer all-purpose player Devron Harper were selected to the special teams first team.
Samford quarterback Michael Hiers and Chattanooga defensive lineman Devonnsha Maxwell were second-team picks, while Chattanooga running back Ailym Ford and ETSU all-purpose Jacob Saylors were third-team selections.
Western Carolina running back Desmond Reid and Chattanooga offensive lineman Bryce Goodner claimed spots on the Freshman All-America team.
