Wofford's Marchal named preseason All-American

Terrier right-hander earns second-team honors from Collegiate Baseball

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford senior right-handed starting pitcher Matthew Marchal earned second-team preseason All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball, as announced by the newspaper Monday.

A consensus first-team All-Southern Conference selection a season ago, Marchal posted a 7-2 record in 18 appearances, including 17 starts, totaling 85 2/3 innings. His 93 strikeouts ranked second in the league, while he walked just 12, good for a 7.75 strikeout-to-walk ratio, which ranked 14th in NCAA Division I.

Marchal, whose 2.52 ERA was good for 27th in DI, allowed opposing batters to hit just .225 against him.
The Greenville, South Carolina, native helped the Terriers to a 42-16-1 overall record and a 16-4-1 SoCon mark for their second straight regular-season title. The 42 wins were a program record for Wofford, which entered the national rankings in April, spending three weeks in the top 25.
