SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga women’s basketball player Abbey Cornelius has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Nov. 23-29. The selection is made by the conference office.
Cornelius helped the Mocs to a 2-0 week with wins over UNC Asheville and King University. Against the Bulldogs on Nov. 23, the Knoxville, Tennessee, native had eight points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot as Chattanooga topped UNCA on the road, 60-48.
In a 62-47 win over King on Saturday, Cornelius recorded her first double-double of the season and 15th of her career with 12 points and 12 rebounds. She also added a blocked shot against the Tornado.
A senior forward working on a Master of Business Administration, Cornelius carries a 3.9737 GPA.
Chattanooga (5-3) is back on the road for its next six contests, starting Wednesday at Georgia State before consecutive games against Southeastern Conference opponents Alabama on Saturday and Tennessee on Dec. 6.
Also nominated: Erin Houpt (Mercer women’s basketball) and Helen Matthews (Wofford women’s basketball).
