Samford’s Cournoyer named player of the week

Senior guard sets school record as Bulldogs went 2-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Andrea Cournoyer has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 15-21 after averaging 27.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game last week. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Cournoyer poured in a school-record 37 points as the Bulldogs defeated Alabama A&M, 75-68, on Thursday, Nov. 17. The native of Merryville, Louisiana, also pulled down five rebounds, dished out seven assists and had three steals at Alabama A&M. Three days later, the senior guard finished with 18 points, four rebounds and six assists in a 77-52 win over Miles College. In the contest against Miles, Cournoyer eclipsed 1,000 points for her Samford career as she spent her first two seasons in college at Louisiana-Lafayette.
 
Samford (2-3) hosts Talladega College on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The Bulldogs will then travel to Orlando, Florida, to participate in the UCF Thanksgiving Classic, playing at UCF on Saturday, Nov. 26, and against Rhode Island on Sunday, Nov. 27.
