SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell’s Gabriel Hixenbaugh has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Nov. 9-15. The selection is made by the league office.
Hixenbaugh, who is unranked at 133 pounds, began his 2022-23 season with a win over a nationally ranked opponent on Friday, Nov. 11, at Pope Army Airfield at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The redshirt junior won a 7-3 decision over 18th-ranked North Carolina wrestler Joey Melendez. The Alabaster, Alabama, native helped the Fighting Camels (2-3, 0-0 SoCon) to three wins out of 10 matches versus the Tar Heels, who won the dual 24-10.
The Fighting Camels, who also dropped a 26-6 dual to No. 5 Michigan on Friday, followed that by placing 10 wrestlers, including four champions, in the Georgia Open on Sunday, Nov. 13.
Campbell travels to the Life University Open in Marietta, Georgia, on Saturday, Nov. 19, and to the Black Knight Invitational in West Point, New York, on Sunday, Nov. 20.
