SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer volleyball player Annie Karle has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Nov. 9-15. The selection is made by the conference office.
Karle totaled 21 kills and averaged 2.6 per set in Mercer’s 3-0 loss to Samford on Nov. 9 and 3-2 win at Wofford on Saturday. The Mount Olive, New Jersey, native had eight kills and nine digs against the Bulldogs before adding 13 kills and 10 digs against the Terriers. Karle, an outside hitter, broke the school record for career kills in the match against Wofford, finishing the match with 1,391.
A graduate student pursuing her Master’s in Business Administration, Karle boasts a 4.0 GPA.
The Bears finished the regular season with a 10-18 overall mark and 6-10 SoCon ledger to claim the No. 6 seed in the SoCon Volleyball Championship, which will take place at Furman’s Timmons Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, from Friday to Sunday. The Bears will face No. 3 seed Western Carolina in the quarterfinals on Friday at 7 p.m.
