SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Sydney Ryan has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 7-14 after averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds per game as the Paladins won their first two games of the 2022-23 season. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Ryan began her collegiate career by scoring a game-high 25 points, including six 3-pointers, as the Paladins defeated Erskine, 84-27, on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The native of Nashville, Tennessee, also pulled down nine rebounds, dished out three assists and picked up a pair of steals in the season opener. Two days later, the freshman guard got her first career double-double, tallying 11 points and 13 rebounds in a 67-60 victory on the road at Presbyterian. Ryan made a free throw with 3:29 left against the Blue Hose to give Furman the lead for good as the Paladins rallied back from a 16-point deficit in the third quarter to win.
 
Furman (2-0) hosts Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, Nov. 15. The Paladins will then head south to face Stetson on Saturday, Nov. 19, and Florida on Monday, Nov. 21.
