SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its Football Player of the Week awards for all games played Oct. 29 on Monday. Wofford quarterback Jimmy Weirick was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Furman free safety Hugh Ryan was named the Defensive Player of the Week and Mercer wide receiver Devron Harper was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. The awards are selected by the league office.
 
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jimmy Weirick, 5th, QB, Wofford, Pickerington, Ohio
Wofford quarterback Jimmy Weirick went 25-for-39 for a school-record 409 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Terriers to a 48-41 win over ETSU on Saturday. The fifth-year senior from Pickerington, Ohio, matched the school record for completions that he set earlier this season and did not throw an interception en route to a pass efficiency rating of 177.58 on the day. Weirick threw touchdown passes of 3, 11 and 31 yards, the last of which came on 4^th-and-15 to tie the game at 41 with 2:54 left. Weirick, who is four passing yards shy of the program’s single-season record with 1,606 this season, led Wofford to its second straight win as the Terriers posted consecutive victories for the first time since 2019.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Hugh Ryan, R-Jr., FS, Furman, Irmo, S.C.
Furman free safety Hugh Ryan had seven tackles and a key interception to help the Paladins top then-No. 6/7 Chattanooga on Saturday, 24-20. After a Furman fumble gave the Mocs the ball at the Paladin 20-yard line, the redshirt junior from Irmo, South Carolina, picked off a UTC pass at the 6-yard line and returned it 29 yards to thwart the scoring chance. Ryan, who had three solo tackles among his seven stops, also broke up a pass on the afternoon. He contributed to a Furman defensive effort that held Chattanooga to just 84 yards on the ground in handing the Mocs their first league loss.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Devron Harper, Jr., WR, Mercer, Conyers, Ga.
Mercer wide receiver Devron Harper had a school-record 293 all-purpose yards as the Bears rolled to a 55-14 win at VMI on Saturday. The highlight of the day for the junior from Conyers, Georgia, was his 87-yard punt return for a touchdown, the second-longest punt return in program history, to open the scoring in the first quarter. Harper finished the day with a school-record 126 yards on four punt returns (31.5 yards per return) and had two kickoff returns for 65 yards (32.5 yards per return). Harper also added 22 yards rushing on four carries and 80 receiving yards on seven catches to surpass the prior school record for all-purpose yardage by 17 yards.
