SoCon volleyball players of the week announced

Smith, Coffman and Hensley honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its volleyball players of the week Monday for games played Sept. 26-Oct. 2. Wofford outside hitter Kennedy Smith was named the Offensive Player of the Week and ETSU middle blocker Lundyn Coffman was named Defensive Player of the Week, while the Terriers’ Victoria Hensley was tabbed Setter of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
 
Smith averaged 3.73 kills per set and 3.09 digs per set last week. Wofford went 3-0 as the Terriers defeated Furman in five sets on Wednesday, Sept. 28, before sweeping Western Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 1, and UNCG on Sunday, Oct. 2. Smith, a native of Huntersville, North Carolina, had a double-double versus Furman, finishing with 16 kills, 13 digs and two blocks. Against Western Carolina, Smith had 13 kills and 18 digs. In the contest with UNCG, Smith had 12 kills and three digs. Smith became the first Terrier this season to record back-to-back double-doubles with her performances against Furman and Western Carolina.
 
Coffman anchored the ETSU defense at the net in the Buccaneers’ two wins last weekend. The native of Noblesville, Tennessee, finished with six blocks, four kills and three digs in a sweep versus Samford on Friday, Sept. 30. In a four-set win at Mercer, Coffman finished with four total blocks, two solo, 11 kills and two digs on Saturday, Oct. 1. Coffman is the second middle blocker from ETSU to be awarded defensive player of the week this season, as teammate Whitley Rammel received the honor on Sept. 12.
 
Hensley led the Wofford offense over the weekend with 11.09 assists per set. Hensley led the Terriers in assists in all three matches as she set a new career high in each contest. Against Furman, Hensley tallied 35 assists, eight digs, an ace and a kill. The native of Clearwater, Florida, finished with 43 assists, four digs and a block against Western Carolina. Hensley finished the weekend with 44 assists, 11 digs and an ace versus UNCG.
 
Wofford (11-6, 3-2 SoCon) hosts The Citadel (8-7, 1-1) on Wednesday, Oct. 5. ETSU (10-6, 4-0) is at UNCG (7-9, 1-2) on Friday, Oct. 7, and at Western Carolina (10-6, 3-1) on Saturday, Oct. 8.
