SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga has claimed the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Championship after posting a 5-1-3 league mark this season. Samford posted a 5-1-3 league mark to share the regular-season title with the Mocs and will be the No. 2 seed.
 
Chattanooga ended up with the top seed by defeating Mercer on Sept. 23, as the Mocs and Bulldogs played to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 7.
 
The Mocs won their first regular-season championship since joining the league in 1996. The Bulldogs claimed at least a share of the regular-season title for the ninth straight year.
 
The tournament begins Tuesday, Oct. 25, with a pair of first-round matches on campus sites. The quarterfinal round follows on Oct. 28 with the semifinal round set for Oct. 30, both hosted by top-seed Chattanooga and No. 2 seed Samford. The championship will be played at the highest remaining seed on Nov. 5 or 6.
 
Chattanooga tied Furman, 1-1, on Sunday to conclude the regular season, while Samford won 2-1 at Wofford in Sunday’s regular-season finale.
 
Mercer went 4-1-4 in league play to earn the No. 3 seed. The Bears will match up with No. 6 seed ETSU in the quarterfinals. The two squads played a 0-0 tie back on Sept. 29. Their second matchup of the season will be on Friday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. CT in Birmingham, Alabama.

UNCG is the No. 4 seed and will take on No. 5 Western Carolina on Friday, Oct. 28, 4 p.m. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Spartans and Catamounts played to a scoreless draw on Oct. 7.
 
The Citadel claimed the No. 7 seed after going 4-5 in SoCon action and will host No. 10 VMI, on Tuesday, Oct. 25. This is the second straight season where the Bulldogs will host the Keydets in the first round. The Citadel defeated VMI 5-1 on Sunday in the regular-season finale.
 
Wofford finished with 11 points after posting a 3-4-2 SoCon record and will host Furman, also 3-4-2 in league play, on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The Terriers and Paladins played a scoreless draw on Sept. 29, but Wofford won the tiebreaker by beating Chattanooga.

Chattanooga will host either Wofford or Furman on Friday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m., while No. 2 Samford will take on the winner of the contest between The Citadel and VMI on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT.
 
The tournament winner earns the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship.
