SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina soccer player Maggie Lloyd has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Oct. 5-11. The selection is made by the conference office.
 
Lloyd started in all three matches for Western Carolina this week, scoring one goal and registering four assists as the Catamounts went 2-0-1. In Western Carolina’s victory over VMI on Sunday, Oct. 9, the junior forward drew a foul inside the box to set up a penalty kick six minutes into the match, allowing teammate Katelyn Galbraith to net the penalty kick goal to hand the Catamounts a 1-0 lead. Lloyd followed that up with what would turn out to be the game-winning goal, scoring Western Carolina’s second goal of the contest in the 24^th minute to extend the Catamounts lead to 2-0. She also added assists on Western Carolina’s third and fourth goals of the match to help the Catamounts secure the 4-1 win. In the road win at The Citadel on Tuesday, Oct. 11, Lloyd dished out an assist on teammate Isabella DeMarco’s third goal of the match, sealing DeMarco’s first career hat trick, before following that up with another assist on freshman teammate Milla Syska’s goal, capping off a six-goal contest against the Bulldogs. Lloyd leads the team with five assists, notching four of those over the last two matches, and ranks second on the team in goals with three.
 
The Shelby, North Carolina, native maintains a 4.00 grade point average and is majoring in integrated health sciences.  
 
Western Carolina (4-5-5, 3-2-1 SoCon) travels to Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Friday, Oct. 14, for a conference match against Chattanooga (6-3-3, 4-0-1) at 5 p.m. ET before traveling to Birmingham, Alabama, on Sunday, Oct. 16, for a conference match against Samford (6-3-5, 2-1-2) at 2 p.m. ET.
