SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel senior forward Suzuka Yosue and Mercer sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Bell have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Oct. 4-10.
 
Yosue was named player of the week for the second time this season, the first coming on Sept. 20, after starting both matches last week as The Citadel went 2-0 in two road contests. The Bulldogs defeated Furman, 2-0, on Thursday, Oct. 6, and The Citadel had a 1-0 win over Wofford on Sunday, Oct. 9. In the game with Furman, Yosue scored a goal and had an assist. The assist came in the 24th minute as she fed teammate Jimena Rissoto for the first score of the game. Yosue would add an insurance goal for the squad in the 85th minute to grab her fourth goal of the season. Against Furman, Yosue assisted the only goal of the game in the 50th minute when she found teammate Ashley Frank off a header. The native of Osaka, Japan, currently leads the SoCon in assists this season with eight.
 
Bell played all 180 minutes inside the net for Mercer as the Bears had a record of 1-0-1 last week. Mercer played to a 0-0 tie at Wofford on Thursday, Oct. 6, and defeated Furman, 2-0, on Sunday, Oct. 9. The native of Marietta, Georgia, had two saves against Wofford. Bell faced 13 shots against Furman and picked up six saves. Bell is second in the conference in saves per game (4.87) this season.
 
The Citadel (8-5-0, 3-2-0 SoCon) plays at home against Western Carolina (6-4-2, 1-1-1) on Tuesday, Oct. 11, and at home versus Mercer (7-3-5, 2-1-3) on Friday, Oct. 14. Mercer’s only match this week is against The Citadel.
