SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Tierra Hodges has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Jan. 18-24 after averaging 22.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals in a pair of road conference games. The award is selected by the league office.

The native of Covington, Georgia, netted a game-high 26 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds as the Paladins handed Mercer, the preseason pick to win the league, its first conference loss of the season on Feb. 20. Hodges, a fifth year, shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 90.9 percent from the free-throw line, sinking a season-best 10 of her season-high 11 attempts. She added an assist and two steals in the 69-66 win. Two days later, at Samford, Hodges scored 18 points and tallied seven rebounds in a 90-81 loss. The guard/forward went 6-for-8 from the free-throw line and finished with four assists and a steal.

Furman (9-9, 2-2 SoCon) returns home to host ETSU (2-15, 1-3) on Thursday, Jan. 27, and Chattanooga (6-14, 4-1) on Saturday, Jan. 29.
