SPARTANBURG, S.C. – App State’s Jonathan Millner has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Jan. 12-18. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Millner went 1-0 at 149 pounds last week, securing an 8-3 decision over Duke’s No. 8 Josh Finesilver in the Mountaineers’ solo dual match of the week against the Blue Devils on Thursday, Jan. 13, in Durham, North Carolina. The redshirt senior wrestler was tied at 2-all with Finesilver entering the third period of the match, with Millner possessing one takedown and 1:21 in riding time before going on to record two more takedowns in the final period to hand Finesilver his second loss of the season and help App State seal the 22-12 victory over Duke. Finesilver is now 21-2 this season, with his only losses coming at the hands of Millner, who claimed a 15-5 major decision against him earlier this season. With the win, the Greensboro, North Carolina, native improved to 9-1 this season and moved up to No. 5 in the Intermat rankings and No. 6 in the Flo Wrestling rankings.

The Mountaineers (2-2, 1-0 SoCon) host VMI (1-3, 0-0 SoCon) and Little Rock (0-5) on Friday, Jan. 21, in Boone, North Carolina, for a conference match against the Keydets at 5:45 p.m. ET and a nonconference match against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. ET.
