SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Andrea Cournoyer has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Jan. 11-17 after averaging 21.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in a pair of road conference wins. The award is selected by the league office.
The native of Merryville, Louisiana, led the Bulldogs with 15 points, adding eight rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in 34 minutes played in a 62-47 win at Western Carolina on Jan. 13. The junior guard and SoCon preseason player of the year then scored 27 points and pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds, both game highs, earning her first career double-double in a 62-57 win at UNCG. She added a game-high five assists and two steals in the victory. Against the Spartans, Cournoyer shot 47.4 percent from the floor, including 54.5 percent from 3-point range, sinking six of her 11 attempts.
Samford (7-10, 2-1 SoCon) returns home to host Wofford (7-9, 2-0) on Thursday, Jan. 20, and Furman (8-8, 1-1) on Saturday, Jan. 22.
