GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman seniors Julia Adams and Madison Dillon have been invited to compete at the ITA All-American Championships by LTP, which will feature the country's top NCAA Division I players. The event, which will be held at the LTP facilities in Charleston, S.C., is scheduled for Oct. 4-10.
Adams, who hails from Knoxville, Tenn., is one of 21 players to qualify in the main singles draw. The 2019 SoCon Freshman of the Year, Adams, who is ranked 104th in the ITA preseason rankings, garned All-SoCon first team honors for singles in 2021. She played at flights one and two, ranking as high as 77th and recording an 19-6 overall mark and 5-1 record against SoCon foes. Adams went 9-0 in singles in February to earn SoCon Player of the Month accolades. Sixteen of her singles victories came in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-3 win over South Carolina's Megan Davies, who was ranked 30th nationally.
Adams and Dillon, who rank 26th in the ITA preseason rankings, are one of 28 teams to qualify in the main doubles draw. Adams went 22-4 in doubles last season and ranked as high as 16th nationally, while Dillon, a native of Hilton Head, S.C., was 21-14 with a national ranking of 48th. Adams reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships, claiming the Paladins first victory in the NCAA doubles championship.
"I am thrilled to see Julia and Madison earn main draw bids to the ITA All-American Championships," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen. "Julia's victory at the ITA Summer National Championships in Tallahassee is quite an accomplishment, and she is deserving to compete with the top players in the country.
"It is pretty rare for a doubles team who did not compete together last year to attain selection for this tournament," continued Herendeen. "To me, that speaks to the quality of the student-athletes we have at Furman and reinforces the reputation of our program on the national stage."
The men's and women's singles quarterfinalists, consolation finalists, plus the doubles semifinalists and consolation finalists for each gender will earn automatic entry into the ITA National Fall Championships slated for Nov. 4-7 in San Diego, Calif.
