UNCG's Collomb Named CSN National Player of the Week

Collomb earns College Soccer News National Player of the Week honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Theo Collomb was recognized as the College Soccer News National Player of the Week on Monday night.

The national honor for the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) sophomore forward is the first of his career.

Collomb exploded for five goals, two assists, and 12 points to help UNCG earn a pair of huge victories during the week of Sept. 20-26.

The Clermont, France, native scored two beautiful goals to lift UNCG to a pulsating 3-1 victory over second-ranked Clemson last Tuesday, one of the best wins in the history of the UNCG program.

It was Clemson’s first loss of the season. Clemson entered the game with six consecutive shutouts and one goal allowed. Those gaudy statistics didn’t bother Collomb, who was at his best when it mattered most against a high-level opponent.

He ended the week by notching his first career hat trick during a 7-0 victory over VMI in the Spartans’ Southern Conference opener last Saturday with goals in the fourth, 15th, and 40th minutes.

For good measure, Collomb assisted on goals from Maycol Reyes in the seventh minute and Micah Albert in the 17th minute.

Through nine matches for the 6-2-1 Spartans, Collomb leads the nation in goals per game (1.38), points per game (3.12), goals (11), and points (25). He is third in the NCAA in game-winning goals (3) and eighth in shots per game (2.25). He has 19 career goals.

Collomb, who was named the SoCon co-Freshman of the Year, has scored at least two goals in a match four times this season (Stetson, Winthrop, Clemson, and VMI).

UNCG is unbeaten in its last five contests to improve to 6-2-1. The Spartans have outscored their opponents, 21-1, during their unbeaten stretch.

As a team, the Spartans leads the country in scoring offense (3.11) and goals (28). The Spartans are second in points (82), points per game (9.11), and goal differential (20). UNCG is third in assists (26) and assists per game (2.89).
