SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer forward Kadeem Agard and Bears’ goalkeeper Trevor McMullen have been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 14-20.
 
Agard was a key component for the Mercer offense this week, scoring the lone goal in the Bears’ 1-0 win over Furman on Sept. 18 to collect Mercer’s first conference victory of the 2021 campaign. The freshman forward connected with Liam Coxhead and Angel Gonzalez’s go-ahead pass that was delivered just outside the six-yard box to net the game-winning goal in the 80^th minute and give the Bears the 1-0 advantage over Furman. The goal from Agard, a native of Snellville, Georgia, was his third goal of the season.
 
In his first collegiate start for the Bears, McMullen tallied six saves and earned the shutout win over the Paladins.
 
Mercer (3-3, 1-0 SoCon) plays at South Carolina tonight, then will travel to ETSU (2-3-1, 0-1) on Saturday for its second conference match of the season.
 
Also nominated for offensive player of the week: AJ Chastonay (Belmont), Jake Raine (Furman), Angel Bacho (UNCG) and Brandon Oddy (Wofford).
 
Also nominated for defensive player of the week: Drew Romig (Belmont), Josh Perryman (ETSU), Ben Roberts (Furman), Emmanuel Hagan (UNCG) and Joshua Old (Wofford).
